More Site Photos

I shot more site photos today.  First thing in the morning I went to the Peter Whitmer Farm, Fayette Township, New York, and photographed a few items.   I ran in to the crew from the Church History Department again.  (The same people I’m taking these pictures for.)

On my way there I stopped at Wegman’s to buy some “rustic” looking bread.  The idea is to make it look like the first sacrament meeting in 1830.

Sauder’s – Best Sandwich

When I finished there, I was off to Sauder’s for some shopping.  I bought some healthy snack alternatives.  Then, I had lunch there.

It was, by far, the best sandwich I ever had.  The girl behind the counter really piled it on.  It was a feast.

Sauder’s Mega Roast Beef

Part of the secret to its goodness was I had her put onions on BEFORE she toasted it.  The onions melted in to the cheese were delicious.  Part II of the secret is horseradish AND italian dressing.

Veggie Snacks

Sauder’s has these veggie snacks.  I’m not sure if they are freeze dried, or how they get them like this, but they are almost like potato chips (only thicker).  My favorites are carrots and string beans.  I’m switching out salty snacks for these.

Grandkids Here

Grandkids Here

Two of our grandkids are here tonight.  Jennifer and her two are flying out of Rochester so she asked if I’d drive them to the airport and then store their car here.  I’m always happy to oblige and see them.

We stayed up talking until after 11pm.

Earlier in the day Elizabethe and I saw the Last Jedi (VIII in the Star Wars Saga).  It was good. I enjoyed it.

Shopping

While out we did some Christmas shopping.  It was stuff for each other.  She only asked to go to Wegman’s, so I guess I’m getting food for Christmas.

I came up with some fun gifts for her, but I can’t talk about them in my blog because she might find out.  I saw one, and thought if I give that to her she’ll think it is more for me.  Ah, but I have a plan.  When I explain why it is for her she’s going to like it.

Doll Corner

So have these two dolls.  They are kind of like a Barbie and Ken, but more poseable and realistic.  I’ve been using them as painting models.  I got this idea to build an 18×18 inch corner for posing them.

I stopped at Home Depot to see if they carried (or if they even make) the stuff I’d need.  The DO!  They make and carry the components so I bought them.  $21 worth of raw materials.

Upon getting home, I checked eBay to see if anyone makes what I’m going to build.  There are a few, but the cheapest was $170!  Some were in the $600 range!  This will be cool!

Cheesecake Factory

Cheesecake Factory

We order gift cards as our credit card rewards.  Often you can get more dollars for your points that way.  So, I ordered a $100 Cheesecake Factory card.

I took it today to buy a cheesecake for Thanksgiving dessert.  Asking if I could mix and match, I got the shock of my life… “Yes, but you will pay the per-slice price.”

Hmmm… $8.50 to $9.50 per slice… 12 slices per cake… there goes my $100.

She then added I could get half a cake of one and half of another.

Bingo!

Elizabethe likes plain, and I like something more exciting.  So I got 1/2 plain and the other half pecan chocolate turtle.  That’s about 1/2 the price of buying by the slice.

Early Taste

After dinner tonight both of us took an early taste of the cheesecake.  It’s not like we’re going to run out tomorrow especially since it will just be the two of us.  In fact, we might have cheesecake for dessert on Sunday when we feed the sister missionaries.

The pecan turtle cheesecake was really good with one exception… the pecans don’t taste very fresh.  It’s not worth the drive back to Pittsford to ask for an exchange.  But, I will mention it the next time I’m there.  When you spend that much for a cheesecake, you expect it to taste fresh.

Wegman’s Bakery

The Wegman’s bakery had a pretty nice cake.  I think the next time I’m in the mood to splurge for a dessert it will be their cake that is half cheesecake and half ultimate chocolate cake.

F. Olivers

F. Olivers

Yesterday Elizabethe and I discovered F. Olivers in Canandaigua, New York.  Like Tubby Olive in Philadelphia, this place sells infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars.  This could be dangerous to one’s pocket book.

My favorite was a white balsamic infused with ginger.  It was like chinese food in a spoon.  Mix that with some sesame oil and you have a great topping for stir fried veggies or a dip for egg rolls.  As a result, I bought a bottle.

Wegmans vs BJ’s

I discovered BJ’s has some high-end cheeses.  They are priced much lower than Wegman’s.  As much as I love Wegman’s, I’ll be buying some of my cheeses at BJ’s from now on.

Spin Brush

At my dental checkup 6 months ago, the hygienist mentioned some bad calculus buildup.  Her advice, brush longer in that location.  To be honest, I don’t think that’s the problem.  I’m a thorough brusher.

So, I bought a spin brush and have been using it for last 6 months.  Because of the spin brush, those teeth feel cleaner.  Today was the proof.  She did less scraping, I had less bleeding, and no negative comments about my dental hygiene.

I’m not going back to a regular brush again.  I bought a 4 pack of spin brushes at BJ’s.

Toothpaste

Aside from being picking about toothpaste, I have very thick mucus which mixes with saliva and creates a very slippery film in my mouth.  Some toothpastes don’t cut that slickness.  As a result, they don’t make my teeth feel clean.

I’ve also changed toothpastes (about 6 months ago).  So, between the two, my mouth doesn’t feel much cleaner than it did before I had my teeth cleaned today.  That tells my my new regiment is working better than the old.

Sam Patch with Becky

Sam Patch with Becky

We went on the Sam Patch with Becky today.  We took the noon cruise.  When we got to Lock 32, we had to wait for a while.  We sat for a long time waiting for the lock doors to open, but once they did, we entered the lock, rose to the next section, exited it, turned around, and went back.

We stopped at Wegman’s on the way home and got some cheese and bread to snack on during pageant tonight.  We took Becky to the cheese counter so she could sample some of the cheeses.

Pageant – Last Night

It is the last night of Hill Cumorah Pageant 2017.  We got there early and bought dinner from the Lion’s and Rotary Clubs.

I wandered around and took photos of missionaries and cast members.  My goal was to photograph every full-time missionary there.  I think I got all of them, but it was like finding a needle in a haystack.

Sister Missionaries with a Guest

I especially like this next picture.  I managed to catch Elder Bradford’s expression just right…

I also ran in to Sister Crofts.  She served in our ward last year around Christmas time.  She has been home for a while and returned to see pageant.  (She’s also playing her viola in Sacrament meeting tomorrow!)

Note to Self

Note to Self

A note to self:  Don’t shop at Wegman’s on a Saturday!

Well, that’s not entirely valid.  I did run in to a friend at Wegman’s, but I hate the crowds on weekends and days before holidays.  So, I’d rather not shop on Saturday’s.

To top it off, I had a list a mile long of things I need to get — all at various stores.  I stopped at Lowe’s, Staples, BJ’s, and Wegman’s.  As a result, it took me hours to get through it all.

Coupons

I hate dates on coupons.  A couple of times at BJ’s I’ve got bit because I didn’t check the dates close enough.  Well, it happened again today.  Fortunately for me, the cashier had a book that was current and found coupons that applied to other things in my cart.

The problem would be solved if coupons had no expiration date.

Garden

Elizabethe worked all day on the garden.  She enlisted a few neighbor children to help move compost from the compost pile to her tires.  They worked hard.  At the end, Elizabethe said she wanted to go out to eat.

Burger King it was.

Speaking of coupons, I like that Burger King has an app.  The coupon is only good while you are there, and it is a one-time use.  That’s okay.  You walk in, bring up the app, and decide what deal you want.  Perhaps that is the future of coupons.

Trader Joe

Trader Joe

Who was Trader Joe?

Whomever he was, I went shopping at his store today.  I miss San Francisco Sourdough and it is the only place I know that sells it here.  No other sourdough taste like San Francisco Sourdough.  None.

There are a few flavors that go well with San Francisco Sourdough.  1) salted butter, 2) salted butter and raw honey, 3) brie cheese.  Those are my favorites.

Day 2 of Submissions

It is day 2 of print comp submissions.  Today I submitted my 4 open photography images.  It feels good to get that off my shoulders.

Currently I have 8 images waiting to be judged.  The judging is at the end of this month.  After that, it is time to start working on

Enrico

Enrico would have been 71 today.  It’s been a little over 5 years since his passing.  I think about him often.  He was such a good friend.

If it had been a nice day, I would have taken a walk through the Sacred Grove in his honor.  Unfortunately, it is raining like crazy today.

Instead, I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s and Wegman’s.

A Quiz

If I were to ask…

Do you know either one of the following (or both) names?

  • Larry Sinclair
  • Vince Foster

Many of you would say you recognize the same Vince Foster.  Few of you would recognize Larry Sinclair.  Why is that?

There is suspicion regarding both Sinclair’s and Foster’s death.  Yet, you never hear anything about Larry Sinclair.

Food for thought.

Heidi’s Services

Heidi’s Services

Heidi’s services were this morning.  The turnout was great and I saw old friends.  Elder Clay from the Seventy was there, as well as many of Matt’s C.E.S. colleagues.

Cold and Rainy

It’s cold and rainy today.  After the services we chose to go home because I didn’t bring a coat.  As a result, we skipped the grave site dedication.

We came home, changed and went to Wegman’s to shop.  Elizabethe wanted to eat a Wendy’s so we had lunch there.

Saturday at Wegman’s is a zoo.  Note to self:  Avoid shopping on Saturdays or late Fridays or the night before a holiday.

There is still snow on the ground.  These cold rains (mid 30’s outside) don’t cause a lot of snow melt.  My guess is the snow will be gone sometime next week.

Painting

One of my paintings received comments that the face of the subject was too shadowed.  After studying the light I changed the angle of the head.  I studied it carefully and thought the lighting is all wrong.  So, I just flipped the head 180 degrees.

I’m not ready to show this painting yet.

I’ve been thinking about what I should paint next.  It’s a tough decision.

Unusual Lunch Date

Unusual Lunch Date

Today Elizabethe and I had an unusual lunch date.  I suggested we do our grocery shopping at Wegman’s (of course) and buy things we want to try.  We would then take them to the dining section and eat them for lunch.  At first she thought it sounded strange, but she humored me.

We started at the cheese counter.  Some triple-creme brie cheese, Irish cheddar (it is St. Patrick’s Day), and some sheep’s milk Geitost cheese started things off.  I then got some spec (a very dry ham) and sliced sirloin.  For our bread I bought a sliced baguette.

Next stop was the produce section for some grapes, raspberries and pineapple.  I also picked up some cabbage and potatoes for Sunday’s dinner.

Dessert was from the bakery.  A pecan chocolate brownie with salted caramel in the center could not be resisted.  (To be honest, the brownie tasted like those brownies you get from a vending machine.  I wasn’t impressed, but then, I make very good brownies.)

Snow Melt

The snow is melting rapidly.  They say we’re expecting more snow on Sunday,  but I really hope it isn’t like this last storm.  If it is, we’re (as a community) in trouble.  That last storm put a strain on our resources.

Turning Cold

Turning Cold

It warmed up for a couple days, and now they say it is turning cold again.  The winds are picking up, thousands of people in the area are without power, and we’re one of the lucky ones.  Our generator kicked in during a 3 hour outage yesterday.  Other than that, we’re okay.

Because of the bad weather, I canceled a shoot tonight.  The client was happy to oblige because they didn’t want to go out in this weather either.

Our networking meeting was sparsely attended.  Again, it is because of the winds.  The news said some areas experienced winds as high as 80 mph.  Trailer trucks have been blown over, trees and utility polls downed, roofs ripped off, and that’s only a start.

Grocery Shopping

During a lull in the winds I went to Wegmans. Being in the mood for cheese, I sampled some great cheeses… and I bought a few.  Dinner is cheese and fruit tonight.

Produce prices keep rising.  I will be happy when summer comes.  $3/pound for tomatoes is simply too much.  Apples are $3 to $4 a pound.  I suspect that is because it was a bad year for apple growers.

Missionary Pictures

I had the temple missionary pictures printed.  They turned out great.  I love my on-location lights.

Temple Presidency – Miner’s, Black’s and Schwindimin’s

The Miner’s took off before I got a shot of the presidency together.  So, I had to do my magic and add them in.  I realize now that the horizon between the trees doesn’t match.  Hopefully, nobody else will notice.
