Released

Released

They released me as ward organist today. I was thinking it has been 10 years, but it has only been 8.  Eight years I’ve served as the Palmyra Ward Organist.  My calling started September 20th, 2009.  That’s 8 years and 1 month.

They called Sister Lynda Ingold as the organist.  She will do an excellent job.  I had a feeling she’d be called.

Squash x 3

Dinner is squash x 3 today.  We are having spaghetti squash in place of pasta.  On top of that we will have a butternut squash sauce.  For dessert I am making a mock pineapple (zucchini) upside down cake.

Sisters Cahoon and Searle came for dinner.  They got a kick out of all the squash use in the meal.  Sister Searle hadn’t seen the food storage, so we took them in to the basement to see it.

Rebecca and Steve

My daughter Rebecca met a young man online.  He’s visiting her.  She called and we talked.  It sounds like Steve’s a really nice guy.

Mentos

I’ve been on this Mentos craving lately.  Did you know they make caramel Mentos?

They do.  I bought some, and I’m not impressed.  They are like an inside-out Milk Dud.. .but not as good.

Now, the spearmint Mentos are my favorite.  While I am not a huge fan of peppermint, of all the peppermint candies, I like Mentos.

I think it is the texture.

Talking in Canandaigua

Talking in Canandaigua

I’m talking in Canandaigua today.  Gary Lau asked if I would accompany him and talk about missionary work.  As a result, I missed church in my ward for the 3rd Sunday in a row.

My talk went well.  I wonder if anyone texted Paul O’Donnell to tell him I mentioned him again in my talk.

Feeding the Elders

We fed the elders for dinner.  I made spaghetti and meatballs, sourdough garlic bread, and Elizabethe made a salad.  For dessert I made rhubarb upside-down cake.  I hardly put a dent in the rhubarb plant.

Anyone need rhubarb?

Public Affairs Council

They held a late night Public Affairs Council meeting for the North America Northeast region.  It was good information about the use of social media.  I could do better in how I use the church resources for social media.

Shoot-n-Play

I’m hosting a shoot-n-play tomorrow.  I’m anxious about the weather.  It is supposed to rain, however, I hope it doesn’t rain while we are shooting.

We can always shoot in the basement, but the space is limited and confined.  I want to use my new lights, but I don’t want to get them wet since they are strobe lights (i.e. high voltage).  Because of this I hope it doesn’t rain.

Sauce

Sauce

They say it is all about the sauce.  So, I decided to make spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.  It is Sunday and we feed the missionaries on Sunday.

The dessert is what takes the prize, however.  I took some chocolate cookies, and covered them with cookie butter.  I then nuked them to get them soft.  I topped that off with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, and topped it with hot fudge and hot caramel, whipped cream, and a cherry.  Yeah, you can’t get much more decadent than that.

This exercise of only buying milk, eggs and yogurt during the winter has its plus and minuses.  The down side is we’re limited to what is on hand.  That means, when we run out of ice cream, we’re out of ice cream until March 1st, 2015.

Amber called, and they are going to have Brianna’s baptism on June 27th.  Now it’s time to start watching the flight prices.  Uhg.  I’m praying we find a good deal.  Perhaps Amtrak might be the way to go this time.  We’ll have to do some searching to see what is available.

One would think that air travel would go down since gasoline prices have gone down by so much.  Not so.   And, Utah always seems to be an expensive destination for flights.  They must have higher airport fees or taxes.
