Another Scorcher

Another Scorcher

Today is another scorcher.  It’s one of those days when you wish you could take a walk, but one step outside and you feel like the heat is going to kill you.  The high humidity and 92 degrees outside feel more like 110.  It’s miserable.  This heatwave continues.

Idiotic

I received an update for some software today.  I installed the update, but the personalized data that goes along with the software was all deleted.  Talk about frustrating.

So, I figured out what’s going on, but it requires I re-download and install all of the “assets” associated with it.  This is so inconsistent with how they have done things in the past.

I opened a trouble ticket, and received a response that reads, “We do not operate as a 24 hour help center. Our hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm, Mountain Standard Time. Please note, it can take up to 1-2 business days for a response, and up to 5 business days for a resolution. There are rare cases that take longer to resolve, should we need to conduct additional testing or other departments to step in.”

They must not care that some people use their software in their business.  At AT&T I used to negotiate “service level agreements” with vendors.  Known as SLAs, depending on the product, an SLA might require anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours for a call back.  And, if it was customer impacting, resolution time was set at 1 hour!!!

So, these guys have a 48-hour call back and a 5 day resolution time.  Yikes.  If I were in the motion picture industry, I wouldn’t be buying their software.

Florida is Cooler

Florida is Cooler

Today the weather map for the USA shows Florida is cooler than most other places.  That’s a switch.  This heatwave has hit the entire lower 48 states.  It’s miserable.

I decided to do a salad for dinner with tuna sandwiches instead of cooking.  It’s just too hot.  I bet the sister missionaries were thankful we didn’t bake lasagna for dinner.  (Elizabethe is!)

Ice cream for dinner, again because it is too hot.

Not a Good Day

It’s not a good day health wise.  Yesterday I experienced a sudden loss of strength in my fingers.  Coupled with the other symptoms I searched for what it could be.  The first thing that popped up was ALS.  Oh, I hope it isn’t that.  Reading that just compounded my already existing stress.

Drug Trial

Elizabethe is in a drug trial program.  It’s an already existing drug that has a side effect of weight loss.  They are testing to see if it is effective as a weight loss.  So far, it has taken away her appetite.  I joked that she’ll lose weight, but I’ll gain what she loses because I’ll have to eat her leftovers too.

Actually, that’s not going to happen.  Whatever it is that I have is making me less hungry than before.

Networking with Natalie

Networking with Natalie

Today I went networking with Natalie, my daughter.  She attended the Tri County Networkers with me.  It was her first time at a networking meeting like this.  (I suggested she start one when she gets back home.)

We headed to Lowe’s after our networking meeting to pick up some felt pads for Elizabethe.  Since we just had the floor re-finished, she’s going to put felt pads on the bottom of the furniture in the sunroom.   I hope that keeps the new finish from getting marred.

Heatwave

The heatwave here continues.  This summer has been unusually hot and dry for this area.  The lawn is dry, locust are eating what lawn I have, and we need the rain.

Calendaring

We started calendaring the time while Natalie is here.  Elizabethe and I made a list, but things kept getting in the way and we never sat down with Natalie about the schedule.  I guess I have to do that tomorrow.

Also, it may all change when the others get here for the big Family Reunion.  I wish they all could make it, but those of us here will make the best of it.
