New Elders Quorum Presidency

New Elders Quorum Presidency

It went off without any fanfare; no pomp or circumstance.  Our new Elders Quorum Presidency was called today.  This comes after the General Conference announcement that wards will only have one Melchizedek Priesthood Quorum.  Our new Elders Quorum President is Brother Vance.  He’s going to do an excellent job.

Glen and Becky are with us and attended our ward.  We had a great meeting with two new members talking, and Matt Baker teaching a great Sunday School lesson.

Our lesson was on the story of Balaam.  It’s one of the most unique stories in the Bible.  It features a talking donkey.

The story is worth reading.  Found in Numbers 22-24, Balak, King of Moab, wants the prophet Balaam to curse the Israelites.  You’ll have to read the story to find out what happens.

I think it would be great to cast this as a movie.  Danny DiVito would make a great Balaam, and his wife, Rhea Perlman, the voice of the donkey.  The destroying angel would be Christopher Walken.

The story has a latter-day parallel in the story of Martin Harris and the lost 116 page manuscript.

I had to drive to Batavia for a public affairs training meeting.  The drive went much quicker this time than it did the last time.  I think that’s because I’m familiar with the route.

After the meeting, we all grazed on some leftovers and watched the Purple Rose of Cairo.  The 2nd DVD wouldn’t play (it’s an old set), and so I had to tell Glen and Becky how it ends.
