2015-2016 Season Watch

2015-2016 Season Watch

Here it is… my 2015-2016 Season Watch page.  Watch this page for SNOW in the Palmyra area.  Unlike actual weather agencies, I report what I see out my backdoor.

2015-10-12 – near 80-degree weather today.  While I’ve seen Utah get snow as early as October, anyone want to take a guess as when snow will hit Palmyra this year?  Here’s my guess…. December 7th, 2015.

2015-10-18, Sunday, I was wrong.  The first day of snow this season hit this morning.  In fact, we had flurries throughout the day.  Nothing really stuck, but it was still snowfall.

First Snow of 2015

Day 2 – 2015-11-23 – This time it is actually sticking and covering the ground with white.  Yes, this feels more like snow.  I was off by about 2 weeks.  I really thought we wouldn’t get this much snow until December 7th.

Second Snow Day

Day 3 – 2015-11-24 – Yes, another light dusting, but it didn’t stick around long.

Day 4 – 2015-12-28 – This is only our 4th day of snow this season.  It was less than what we got a month ago, but we have been getting a lot of rain.  On December 23rd, two days before Christmas, it was in the mid-60s all day.  Temperatures have now dropped, but only to the very low 30s.  Stay tuned this winter for updates to 2015-2016 Season Watch.

Day 5 – 2016-01-01 – Yup, it is New Year’s Day and it snowed last night.

Day 6 – 2016 -01-02 – Second day of 2016 and it snowed.

Day 7 – 2016-01-03 – My goodness, day 3 of 2016 and it snowed.

Day 8 – 2016-01-04 – Snow?  Again?  The saving grace is it isn’t much.  Total snowfall this year is probably about 1″, and that might be stretching it.  However, the temperature around 1pm today was 13F.  Yes, it has got COLD.

Comparison to 2015

In comparison to 2015 – Last year by January 5th, 2015, we had received a good 16″ of snow (from the start of the season).   January 5th last year was the 15th day of snow and we had two big storms – one 10″ and the other 5″ – the rest were dustings.  This year, we’ve had a grand total of about 1″ – all dustings.

Day 9 – 2016-01-12 – I wasn’t sure at first if it was snow or a heavy frost.  As I looked out the bedroom window I saw the deck was covered with a thin white blanket.  After I showered and dressed, I went to the back door and saw that we did get some snow.

Day 10 – 2016-01-13 – We got about 1″ total.

Day 11 – 2016-01-15 – We got another 1″, but by 5pm today, most of it had melted.

Day 12 – 2016-01-18 – Another inch and our total snowfall for this season (total, not how much is on the ground, but how much has fallen from the sky) is about 3″.  We had to have the driveway shoveled, but by afternoon, most of what was on the driveway after the shoveling had melted.

Day 13 – 2016-01-19 – Wow, we got about 1.5″ inches last night.  Biggest snowfall this season.

January 19th, 2016

Day 14 – January 20th, 2016 – Another inch of snow today.  The cold temperatures are keeping it from completely melting off so we are getting a little accumulation.

Day 15 – January 21st, 2016 – We had about 2″ this morning.  This is probably the most snow we’ve got this season.

Day 16 – January 29th, 2016 – Just a dusting today.  Temperatures in the high 20s/low-30s.

Day 17 – February 9th, 2016 – We got about 1/3rd of an inch of snow today.  By 11am it was all melted.

Snow, but just a dusting

Day 18 – February 10th, 2016 – Another dusting and another day of “snow”.  I say “snow”, because it is just a dusting and not SNOW.

Day 19 – February 11th, 2016 – Just a dusting again.

Day 20 – February 12th, 2016 – We were supposed to wake to 8″ of snow, and we woke to another dusting.

Day 21 – February 13th, 2016 – We woke to 1.5″ of snow today. Enough that we had to have the driveway and sidewalk shoveled.

Day 22 – February 14th, 2016 – President Clark last night announced church would be canceled for today because of the weather.  We woke to another 1.5″ of snow and a steady 0F.  Last night, when I went to bed, it was a minus 8F.

Feb 14th, 2016, Snow

Day 23 – February 15th, 2016 – We had a dusting last night.

Day 24 – February 16, 2016 – We got dumped on last night.  6.5 inches of the wettest snow I have ever seen.  This was almost slush.  And, when I went out to clear it off the steps it started to rain.  Then, the missionaries came over and cleared the driveway, and then it started to snow again.  Our total depth was about 9.5 inches, but with the moisture, NOAA is reporting 20 inches.  (Nope, it never got that deep, it just has a lot of water and so when melted it came out to 2″ of water which is how they measure snow depth.  1″ water = 10″ snow.)

Uber Snow

Day 25 – February 17th, 2016 – We received a little snow over the night, but most was from yesterday.

Day 26 – February 18th, 2016 – We had a small dusting last night, and while the sun came out, the temperatures stayed quite low.

Day 27 – February 25th, 2016 – Tonight we received about 1 inch of new snow.

Day 28 – March 2nd, 2016 – We received a slight dusting this morning.  Two days ago, it was 60 degrees, today it is in the mid 20s.

Day 29 – April 2nd, 2016 – I was ready to close this season, but tonight we received an inch of snow.

Day 30 – April 3rd, 2016 – We woke to 2″ of snow on the deck.  It didn’t stick to the pavement, but the lawn and deck are covered with a good 2″ blanket of snow.  This is one of the biggest snow storms we’ve received all season… and so late in the season.

Day 31 – April 4th, 2016 – Woke to 3″ of NEW SNOW.  This storm has given us more snow than any other this season.

Snow in April?

Day 32 – April 8th, 2016 – Snow?  Again?  Comes August we’ll get an early snow, but comes Christmas day 2016 I’m sure we’ll be BBQing in the back yard because it is too hot to cook in the kitchen.  This weather is fickle.
